CHRISTINE ROJEK SCULPTURE

Christine Rojek earned her BFA in painting at the University of Illinois (Champaign, IL). She continued her studies at the American School of Fontainebleau (Fontainebleau, France) focusing on performance and installation. After extensive travels through Europe and Mexico, Rojek settled in Chicago where she currently resides. When she is not pursuing sculpture she teaches at Columbia College, serves on the Chicago Public Arts advisory board, and is a founding member of Chicago Sculpture International.

Specializing in public sculpture, Rojek uses the tenets of fine design to create interactive environments, that have undeniable relevance and appeal to people of all ages. These forms of lyrical expression can be provocative, humorous, or whimsical, and have become destination pieces to which people come again and again. Rojek’s pieces have been installed throughout the United States, including such public spaces as Northeastern Illinois University (Chicago, IL), EdVenture Childrens’ Museum (Columbia, SC), and Park Place (Tucson, AZ).

Rojek is currently focusing on a site-specific sculpture for a public courtyard in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has recently completed a sculpture for Peterson Park; her sixth public sculpture in the Chicago vicinity and her 24 th nationally. She has received widespread recognition for her achievements, including several fellowship grants from the Illinois Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and an AT&T Technology In Art Grant.
